Loggerhead female after nesting in the GBR on Boxing Day

Christmas at Gnaraloo

Merry Christmas turtle followers! The GTCP team hopes you all had a wonderful Christmas day and stuffed yourselves silly!

The field researchers had an early start on Christmas morning, the usual 4:30 AM wake-up to head to the survey beach. The turtles didn’t know it was Christmas, with 9 nesting activities in the Gnaraloo Bay Rookery! When arriving back at the homestead, all hands were on deck to prepare the Christmas feast: a roast turkey, freshly cooked prawns and a huge Pavlova just to name a few. Thanks Colleen for ensuring we had all the necessary supplies!

The Boxing Day Survey was also completed successfully with 1 female observed to be still laying her eggs at 5:30 in the morning and two others making their way back to the ocean from their early morning nesting activities. It wasn’t all work though, the GTCP field team spent the remainder of the day at the beach playing football and floating around on an inflatable Haviana thong. We even tried our luck at a spot of fishing, but we didn’t even get one bite.

The GTCP team wishes everyone a Happy New Year!
