The Road Trip
Here starts a new chapter for us all, the new GTCP team for the 2016/17 season! We left Perth as soon as possible as we were that eager to reach Gnaraloo Station. The road trip was going to be very long so we drove the first 6 hours to reach Northampton and stayed at a Convent Hostel. Next morning, we quickly got back on the road, after a quick team photo. The next 4 hour drive was to Carnarvon. During the drive the countryside became the Wild Australia (like in movies); orange earth and dashes of red, yellow and purple wild flowers scatted throughout the arid scrubland. BEAUTIFUL! We were not lucky to see a kangaroo, but we did come across baby emus! After a stop at Carnarvon, we visited the blow holes which were very spectacular. Especially if you had never seen one before. With the burst of energy from the blow holes we drove the last miles to Gnaraloo station.
Our excitement was getting bigger and the super bumpy road was just shaking us all up, like a soft drink in a can (beware! We may pop!). It couldn’t get better, so we thought, until we got invited a welcome meal at the Gnaraloo Homestead; traditional and super delicious Italian pasta and roast. During dinner we got to meet the key people of Gnaraloo station and backpackers from abroad. All in all, a perfect warming welcome and a great head start for the next 6 months with the Gnaraloo Turtle Conservation Program! Let the adventure begin!
